Help

When you first launch WoBisch, it leads you through a brief introduction. You choose a name and a color. The name is shown to your friends so that they know you are you. Your App can bllink in this color. Both the color and name can be changed at any time. You can find the entry for yourself at the bottom of the friends list. Tap it.

Via the settings you may enter your own phone number (with international country code, because it works always and everywhere). After you've done that, you can simply call your friends via the App.

Your friends list is empty at the start. Select the "+" at the top right. It will then show who is nearby and runs also the App in "+" mode. With "OK" you have added the person to your list the person. If you and your friends are not in the same place, you can add each other to the friends-list, by choosing "Connect via iMessage" in "+" mode. Via iMessage you can send any person your "WoBisch"- information. If your friends do not have the App, your message contains a link to the App store.

You can sort the friends list. Select "Edit" and move the entries the way you want them.

If you are very close, less than about 15 feet, then the position can usually not be determined accurately enough so that the direction can be determined - the radar beam then turns all around. But then you can see each other. If not, touch the "hand with the iPhone" at the right bottom of the screen, and hold the iPhone in the air. The held up and flashing iPhone helps you to find each other in the crowd. Your iPhone screen blinks in the color of your friend.

Sometimes it may be useful to remember a place, e.g. where you have parked your vehicle or a meeting point. Choose to "+" and then "Add your position".

Even if the App is closed and one of your friends nearby is looking for you, you will receive a message. If you don't want this for some reason, then select "me" and then "Completely Exit App". This terminates the App and also turns off any transmissions in the background. By the way: No one can locate you if you do not run the App. Only if you've opened the App, your friends can see you in their "WoBisch"-Apps.

List

If one or more of your friends are nearby, the circle in the list gets big and the name is no longer gray. A line in the circle indicates the direction in which your friend is. The more precise the direction can be determined, the more accurately the line points in the right direction. If the line moves around, the direction information is inaccurate. Thus, the line indicates the range where your friend might be.

Surrounding

If you some of you are looking for each other, the "Surrounding" View is useful, which can be found at the top center on the list. In this view you see yourself in the center and your friends around you in the approximate direction. The area in which the friends are is marked in the color of the friend.

Radar

If you tap on a name or circle, you can see detailed information about that friend. With this "radar view" it's easier to locate a friend. The radar beam roughly indicates the direction in which the friend is staying. Your friend marked with a circle. It is located in the center of the beam. The further he or she is away from you, he more distant is the circle from the center. Is the distance more than 60 meters, then the circle is shown at the outer edge of the radar.

How does Wobisch work?

To use this App, you should not be further appart then 30 - 60 meters. You see in which direction and how far or the others are, so you can move towards each other. If you are in sight, you can hold up your iPhone and blink. The app uses GPS, Bluetooth LE, iBeacon and the multi-peer network.

FAQ

Why this App?

In crowded places, it is sometimes difficult to find other people even if they are close by. WoBisch helps you finding people in such situations by providing you with information about the direction and distance of those people. In contrast to other, similar Apps, WoBisch does not need an Internet connection. Therefore, it is useful without a data subscription and even abroad (no roaming charges).

Why should I use WoBisch instead of"Find My Friends"?

"Find My Friends" ist a great App to find your Friends. However, it sends your position data across the Internet, which means that you maybe charged for the data transfer. Also, there is a risk that other people or organizations may get hold of your position data. WoBisch works fully local. Data is exchanged only between your iPhone and the iPhones of friends in your vicinity, free of change and private. Also, "Find my friends" locates the approximate, but not the exact positions of your friends. Ofter, this is sufficient to find your friends. However, in crowded places, "Find your friends" often fails – while WoBisch is designed exactly for those situations.

Why can only sixteen friends be monitored at any one time?

WoBisch uses iBeacon technology to survey nearby friends and notify you if any of them are in your vicinity. There is a technical limit for Apps: they can only monitor about 20 iBeacons at any one time. Therefore, only the first 16 friends in your list will pop up a notification when the App is running in the background. But of course, you can also find the other friends on your list.

Why no maps?

In order to show maps, either high resolution maps of the entire planet needed to be included within the App, which ist unrealistic in terms of space and cost, or the App needed to download maps from the Internet. WoBisch is designed in a way so that it works without maps and thus its usage is cost free, even abroad.

Why is the direction and distance sometimes inaccurate?

The App uses the location services of your device and can only be as precise as they are. GPS and compass work best under the free sky and away from buildings, rocks and electrical wires. Even then, the location can only be determined in the range of a few meters. If you are very close to each other, this may not be sufficient to provide an exact direction. WoBisch shows a moving "radar beam" to visualize in which range a friend may be, based on the measurements.

Why don't I see photos of my friends?

Each person who uses WoBisch has a color assigned. That color is also used when you hold up your iPhone and let the App blink. We think that a color is more useful for WoBisch to distinguish friends that an image. If you have a different opinion, please use the feedback form.

Can I change my name and color?

Yes, of course. Just tap the bottom-most name on your friends list, the name that represents yourself. There, you can change your name, your color, and your phone number at any time. If you are close to any friends, the updated information is sent to them automatically.

How to sort the friends list?

Simply touch the "Edit" button and move your friends up or down the list. We recommend to keep the friends you are searching at the moment towards the top of the list. That way, you have a better overview and also, for the first 16 friends in the list, you will get notifications if they are nearby with the App opened.
